Was bored and reading through Yoda's wookieepedia article when I came across N'kata Del Gormo, a Hysalrian that first trained Master Yoda. I figured that the species that revealed Yoda's force sensitivity deserved stats of it's own so here's what I got.

    Hysalrian

Personality: Hysalrian's are gentle dispite their large size and intimidating features. Most Hysalrian's live their lives in isolation. But a few venture out to explore the Galaxy.
Physical Description: Hysalrians are large serpent like sentients with four arms and four eyes.
Homeworld: Hysalrians come from a swamp planet named Gormo.
Languages: Hysalrians speak, read, and write Hysalrian and Basic
Example Names: N'Kata, Sseket, R'Gada (Hysalrians posses a single named followed by an indication of their birth planet. Example: N'kata Del Gormo)
Adventurers: Heroic Hysalrians are often Scouts or Jedi.

    Hysalrian Species Traits
Hysalrian's share the following species traits:
Ability Modifiers: +2 Dex, +2 Wis -2 Cha. Hysalrians are Fit and wise, but due to their swamp planet origins are susceptible to disease. Many find Hlsalrians strange and off putting.
Large Size: Hysalrians take a -1 penalty to their Reflex Defense, a -5 penalty on Stealth checks, and a +5 size bonus to their damage threshold. Their lifting and carrying limits are double those of Medium characters
Speed: Hysalrian base speed is 6 squares
Extra Arms: Hysalrians can hold up to four items or weapons at a time. This ability does not grant extra attacks; however, it does mean that a Hysalrian can wield two two-handed weapons at a time.
Expert Grappler Due to it's four arms and long serpentine body, Hysalrian's gain a +5 bonus to Grappling attacks.

    Heroic Traits
    Age:
Child: 1-12 years, Young Adult: 13-17 years, Adult: 18-70 years, Middle Age: 71-100 years, Old: 101-150 years, Venerable: 151-220 years
    Height and Weight
Average Height: 3.0 m, Average Weight: 100 kg

Notes: There wasn't a lot to go on, so much of this is speculative. The only example of the species is N'kata Del Gormo, del is of in spanish so I figured Gormo might be their home planet. For the Species traits I referenced Codru-ji, Hutts, and Gran. The one example of their species is a Jedi, so that gave me the +2 Wis. They are quite large and have four arms so that gave me the +2 Dex and Str. The penalties gave me a hard time cause I had to even it out, -2 Cha and Con were the best I could come up with due to their strange looks and swamp planet origins. The two Mods I'd most willingly remove are the +2 Str and -2 Con.

    Any ideas?

That's pretty beefy and would have to be toned back a bit before I would approve them. Cut back on the attribute bonuses and lose probably 2 or three of the species traits they are all very good. That said I think it's a good write up overall.

Took away extreme stability, and expert grappler. Thanks for the input, I haven't made a species before so I did get a little carried away. Also the strength bonus and constitution penalty are gone.

It's a lot better, I still question the aiming bonuses, Aqualish and Talz the two examples of four eyed species that have stats already do not have this bonus and it didn't make much sense to me with the gran. I actually liked the bonus for grappling, it made sense both with the four arms and the serpentine body.

    Just some food for thought.

You have a point there, my only problem is I think the tail warrants something special. Maybe the grappling bonus is it, but is there anything else that might be appropriate instead? Perhaps the tail is a natural weapon that deals bludgeoning damage?

    Or I'm over thinking it...

well I think you are probably over thinking it a bit. The thing here is it's completely untested water. nothing published has the serpentine body aside from arguably the hutt, but the hut is built like a slug whereas these guys are built more like snakes, worms, or eels.

I'm inclined to agree with Lambach. The 'Expert Grappler' was a more fitting species trait than 'Quad Vision', at least in my opinion.

They are already large, which will add a bonus to their 'unarmed' damage, but that's not exactly what you're looking for.

If you're looking for something different, you could take a look at the 'tracked droid locomotion system', which means they do not take a penalty due to difficult terrain, but take a -5 to climb checks, kinda reflects a snake; although they can climb quite well... I still prefer Expert Grappler myself.

    Over-all, I think that's a good, detailed write-up you've got going there.

if you're into D&D at all, you may take a look at some of the 3rd edition (or 3.5 edition) special features for monsters and see if any of those strike you as usable.

just looking at the picture, i could definitely see this guy using his "body" to wrap around someone, constricting. but, as i'm not familiar with the character, i don't really have much more input than that.

Changed back to expert grappler. I'm pleased with this write up and am going to go ahead and submit it.

I think I forgot to add the pic from this thread to the submitted version. Can I get a mod to check and add it for me?

    Sweet, good find.
I will have to employ one or two of these guys.
What a fun look and feel for a species. Good Job!
