The year is 1375 BBY. It is over six centuries since Jedi Master Phanius left the Jedi Order, initiating the Fourth Great Schism, founding the New Sith Empire, and beginning the New Sith Wars. The fires of that conflict have raged across the galaxy ever since, only growing more intense as years pass. It is a very dark and troubled time. The Republic is in steep decline, mineral mines running dry, corporations failing, and the Republic's borders shrinking for the first time since the Cold War as colonies are abandoned to the advancing Sith and economic collapse. Law and order suffer as the Jedi find themselves overstretched. The collapse of the HoloNet and interstellar commerce and the general downward spiral of the Galactic Republic continues unabated. Jedi have been forced to assume greater leadership, commanding the Republic military, and even becoming Supreme Chancellors, despite the public opinion against them. A generation ago, the last non-Jedi ended his service as Supreme Chancellor.

opening scene: Point Nadir, otherwise known as comet Resh 9376

Orwydd has learned that the Zabrak pilot Oorn Noth, for whom he has been given a live-capture bounty from Donloor Noth, Oorn's father, may be in Point Nadir. Oorn is in danger from other bounty hunters, who wish to capture him and return both him and his stolen ship to SoroSuub. Orwydd must find him first and bring him to Donloor on Iridonia (a Sith-occupied world).

Once arrived in Point Nadir, Orwydd naturally makes his way to the Bounty Post, where he finds an interesting listing: Tyrnia Masak, a human female and well-known gladiatrix, has a bounty (specifically, a death mark) placed on her head by the Besadii kajidic (of Nal Hutta) and by a Quarren family on Nar Shaddaa.

Rann, after spending a period resting in a seedy inn in the Trade District, has become separated from his Master, who came to Point Nadir seeking something that he would not discuss with his apprentice. No attempt at contacting his Master, either through comms or the Force, have been successful. Rann fears the worst, which is very easy given the shady nature of Point Nadir, and he's at a loss as to where to start looking.
It is very ill-advised for Rann to display his lightsaber, and far worse to activate it where people can see it. Jedi, being seen as representative of law enforcement, are especially unwelcome in Point Nadir. For this reason, Rann is not wearing the traditional robes of the Jedi.

As Rann steps out of the inn, a tall, gunmetal grey and black droid of a type he's never seen before, looking at him out of icy blue photoreceptors, with a blaster rifle on its back and wearing a bandoleer, confronts him. In a polite and surprisingly cultured male voice the droid asks, "Query: You are Rann Tesrin?"

Growv and Jak will be introduced at the dramatically appropriate time.

The youngster's eyes narrow as he studies the military droid.

Using UtF: Search your Feelings to see if his initial impulse, answering affirmatively, will lead him to harm.

No harm will come to him in the immediate future from admitting his name to this droid. Besides which, the droid already seems quite certain of Rann's identity.

"That is my name, indeed. May I help you?"
The youngster speaks calmly, drawing on his master's teachings. This droid may, after all, be his only way to find the Ithorian.

"Statement: I have news for you. Request: Please follow me." The droid turns sharply and heads around the corner of the inn, without waiting to see if you comply.

Orwydd adds the bounty information for Tyrnia Masak to his datapad and thinks about how to proceed.

    Orwydd must locate targets...

Orwydd decides to give some of the cantinas a try before he resorts to buying a droid or paying off an information broker. He begins to walk through the Souk, looking for any place where spacers or gladiators might gather (or anyone who looks like they would know of such a place), and keeping an eye out for trouble.

Take 10 to sense surroundings (16) and Perception (20) every round while he walks.

Orwydd stops to ask some shopkeepers about Point Nadir's cantinas, and if they know where mercenaries and pit fighters gather.

Gather Info, cantinas (DC 10): 3
    Gather Info, mercs/fighters (DC 15): 14 - will use a FP to hit 15

Orwydd learns that the Nest is the mercenary district.

    Orwydd heads to the Nest.

Better to take care of the death mark before dealing with a prisoner anyway.

Despite the reputation of the Nest, no one seems inclined -- at least for now -- to bother the Gand. Perhaps it's the way he carries that heavy blaster rifle. Or the string of grenades hanging from his bandoleer along with binders that fairly screams out "Bounty Hunter". No one even tries to steal your little droid.

People are ignoring you. Which is a two-edged blade.

You can wait until the Jedi shows up with that nice assassin, um, protocol droid he's just met ...

Orwydd asks a few seedy-looking denizens of the Nest if they know about gladiatorial events, but again he doesn't get anywhere.

Three hours later, 50 credits poorer, and none the wiser, Orwydd is about ready to beat answers out of someone from sheer frustration.

We shall pause here for Helfdan, since it appears you can't roll your way out of a paper sack. You're going to need an external clue, which will be coming ... eventually.

Rann follows the droid, trotting until he can walk beside it. He knows he cannot be too eager, and tries to dampen down worry over his master's fate. "You know where my M... Ithorian friend is, don't you?"

As they move, the droid (without glancing back) replies, "Affirmative answer: Correct."

At the end of the alley, the droid stops, turns to face Rann, and an almost-invisible energy bubble springs forth in a five meter radius. "Assurance: Do not be concerned. That is to impede eavesdropping. Statement: I was requested to locate you and deliver this message." The droid's voice changes into a perfect reproduction of Master Phontar's voice, complete with the vocal inflections of a being in great pain. "Find Rann Tesrin. Tell him: Save the Togorian. Tonight," ending with an equally faithfully-reproduced gasp of the last breath leaving a body.

Master... No... The youngster calls upon all of his training to deal with the sadness threatening to overwhelm him. When he speaks, his voice is calm despite the tears making their way down his cheeks. "I have many questions... but my Master Phontar's request is obviously urgent. Do you know who or where this Togorian is? And what are you called?"

Reverting to his normal voice, the droid responds, "Negative response: I do not know where this Togorian is. Speculation: There is a trio of Togorian mercenaries currently in Point Nadir. Perhaps it is one of them?"

The droid pauses for a moment, as if assessing the youth, then adds, "Statement: I am called 'Abe'. Sympathy: I am ... sorry for your loss. Query: You are a Jedi apprentice?"

Rann dries his tears, his face setting in a grim expression. "Thank you, Abe. Your deduction is correct." He takes a deep breath. "I don't know how I can repay you for your service, but I must see about finding the Togorian... Yet I must know: Who killed my master? And why?"
