Emergency firespeeders have been an important part of making Coruscant life stable for centuries.  On a city-sprawled planet, any object falling from orbit is destined to impact an inhabited area, killing thousands.  Having vehicles that can catch these objects during their descent, and provide relief to disaster areas where they do fall is necessary.  While Coruscanti take the ships and beings who operate them for granted most days, locals developed a newfound respect for them during the second Battle of Coruscant, where the naval battle raging overhead sent down enough debris to black out the sky in some regions to the galactic capitol.  The brave crews of the Coruscant Fire Brigades were able to keep civilian casualties and property damage to a minimum due to their daring heroics.  Captain Jikesh Valia was captain of one such ship that was assigned to the crash-landing remains of the Invisible Hand, piloted by Anakin Skywalker and carrying Chancellor Palpatine.  Captain Valia’s firespeeder, along with several others like it, were able to keep the hull cool enough for Skywalker to land it safely, saving the Chancellor.

Capabilities
The Fire Suppression Ship is the most capable emergency services and disaster relief ship type stationed on Coruscant.  Equipped with a tractor beam to catch falling debris, four high-pressure cannons with which to attack fires, and highly trained medical and emergency response crews onboard, the ship can handle anything from a burning building to a falling asteroid.  The ship has six high-pressure tanks filled with a variety of agents to combat fires, including water, foam, and specialized chemicals.  Each tank has enough liquid for 500 “bursts.”  The ship also loads twenty repulsor discs in a small forward landing bay to allow firefighters to enter burning or collapsing buildings quickly, along with two-hundred fifty anti-gravity life jackets, six spare hazard suits, and a vast array of cutting equipment.  The ship also has a medical bay with twenty medical beds, and typically includes a surgeon, a general practitioner, and five medical droids.  Of course, most firefighters are trained in emergency medical life-saving techniques as well.

TX-130 Saber-class fighter tank

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

ALTERNATE! Official Stats now available in The Clone Wars Campaign Guide (pg. 169)

Cutaway-view of the TX-130 Saber-class tank

The TX-130 Saber-class fighter tank, otherwise known as the IFT-X or Republic fighter tank, was a maneuverable, fast-attack tank used by the Jedi and their clone forces during the Clone Wars.

It was equipped with twin laser cannons and a large payload of concussion missiles. With a limited speed boost, Jedi pilots could remove themselves from tight combat situations, and then use the TX-130S’s powerful optical zoom on the main turret to eliminate vehicles and personnel from a safe distance. Some were also equipped with an onboard R2 unit.

T2-B Repulsor Tank

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

T2-B Repulsor Tank

The T2-B repulsor tank was a light attack tank used by the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War.

The tank’s repulsorlifts allowed it to travel over any form of terrain, even making the transition from water to land with relative ease. The T2-B carried a sophisticated sensor system, making it a valuable scouting vehicle for air assaults and similar long-range attacks.

But, being armed only with four rapid fire-linked lasers, made it a weak attack vehicle when compared to the AT-AT walkers of the Imperial Army. However, it did have deflector shields, which allowed some lasting power while under enemy fire.

VAAT/e

The Variable Altitude Assault Transport/ enforcement (VAAT/e) was a predecessor to the LAAT gunship used by the Coruscant Police Force and Republic Security Force as a rapid troop deployment platform.

It was manufactured by Rothana Heavy Engineering and measured 25 meters in length, 7 meters in height, and had a wingspan measuring 25 meters. It could carry about 15 troops and 1 IM-6 battlefield medical droid.

Its crew consisted of one pilot, one copilot/gunner, and two auxiliary turret gunners. It was armed with a concussion missile launcher and two dual heavy blaster cannon turrets.
