Lone Scout-A

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

Designed by Shadowrunner and ShadoWarrior

Lone Scout

One of the standard scout ships in the Imperial Scout Corps is the Lone Scout by Sienar. The Lone Scout uses many of the basic technologies in Sienar’s popular line of TIE starfighters, but adds substantial room for passengers and cargo. The LSA-2 is an advance on the original Lone Scout and features an improved hyperdrive backup and new deep scan sensor array.

The popularity of the Lone Scout has brought it into the service of the New Republic Scout Service. The New Republic uses the Lone Scout for many of the standard exploration missions into Wild Space. In the Scout Service, the Lone Scout will usually have a pilot and specialist, but the extra space permits this vessel to perform a variety of missions.

XS Stock Light Freighter

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Designed by Kyle and ShadoWarrior

XS Stock Light

The classic freighter has advanced by leaps and bounds since the Dynamic-class freighters from the days of the Jedi Civil War. The freighter is larger and more versatile than its predecessors, and the XS Stock Light model also features a variety of significant upgrades that make it one of the fastest and most nimble ships in the galaxy.

If the captain prefers to avoid being boarded, the XS has proven itself to be fully capable. In addition to the standard laser and torpedo batteries, the starship is designed with upper and lower turrets that can be controlled manually or remotely from the cockpit.

Captains of these freighters typically live on board, so the XS Stock Light has all the creature comforts anyone could ask for, from a recreational lounge to extra sleeping quarters. It’s no wonder that it inspires such loyalty in its owners.

The ship possesses a hypertransceiver and a fully functional medical suite.

Arakyd Helix, Model B

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Designed by Teknon T’shkali
Helix

It is a mystery how the Arakyd Corporation got a vessel with the Helix’s capabilities classified as a civilian light Freighter by the Imperial Bureau of Ship Services. Four H-L Block ion engines provide respectable zero-g speed and additional thrusters are spread across the gracefully curved trusses. These trusses are incapable of taking heavy gravity stresses and thus, the extra maneuverability cannot be utilized in a planet’s atmosphere without great risk of serious damage to the superstructure.

It is the heavy weapons load that raises eyebrows, however. Twin-linked Plasburst heavy lasers mounted in a ventral turret provide hard-hitting, accurate firepower. Supplementing these are a pair of military-spec ion cannons and a Mark V torpedo launcher. Couple all this with the Helix’s paltry 35 ton cargo hold and one can only surmise that Arakyd wasn’t out to manufacture a freighter at all.

Six months after the Helix-class Freighter first began shipment to customers, BoSS became aware of its error. A stop-order was issued on the manufacture and sale of Helixes and Helix modified design types. Thousands of Helixes had already shipped, however. Imperial mandate required all Helix operators to register their vessel and modify it to conform to Safe Starship Regulations. This primarily included halving the weapons load and downgrading the shield generators. Predictably, many Helix owners ignored these laws.

VCX-700 Heavy Courier

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Designed by BlasterFodder30.

VCX-700
The VCX-700 heavy courier is an unusual design for a mass produced ship. It is specifically designed to provide an extremely secure transport for a small party or valuable cargo. To this end, this 26 meter-long courier produced by Corellian Engineering Corporation comes with more weapons than any other stock ship its size. Unlike the earlier VCX-350 light freighter, the VCX-700 sacrificed cargo capacity for armament, and was equipped with a dual laser cannon turret, four ion cannons, an autoblaster, and four concussion missile launchers.
The VCX-700’s hull configuration superficially resembles the Trade Federation’s Armored Assault Tank, with engines mounted above and behind a hemispherical main hull. Other aspects of the design resemble the Firespray-class in it’s landed configuration, such as the loading ramp beneath the tail section, the tail mounted cannon and the top silhouette. It is heavily armored, with an outer hull as tough as a ship twice its size. Its powerful engines give it good maneuverability, and its hyperdrive is almost military grade. It even manages to squeeze in a single escape pod.
Of course all this comes at a price, and for the VCX-700 the cost is space. Although it can carry six passengers, it does so in cramped bunks built against a bulkhead. And despite its heavy armaments the VCX-700 is not a vessel for war, lacking the heavy shields or reinforced hull of a true gunboat. Against most fighters or pirate ships however, the heavy courier is more than able to outfight anything it can’t outrun. One other drawback of such a tight design is the lack of room for additional modifications enjoyed by most other CEC vessels. The VCX-700 only has one available emplacement point.

HWK-290

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Designed by BlasterFodder30.

the Moldy Crow

The HWK-290 was manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation during the decades leading up to the Clone Wars, in an effort to break into a new market for fast, small courier ships. Unlike YT-series of ships for tramp captains, the Hawk line was aimed at more upscale clients, like wealthy merchants and noble politicians. Its sleek design made it less of an eyesore than the wildly successful YT-series.  The HWK series saw modest success, but never reached the amount of sales of YT-series, and was discontinued during the Clone Wars to make way for military production.

Measuring nineteen meters in length, the HWK-290 resembled the head of a large raptor, and required a pilot and co-pilot to operate. The ships were produced without armament or shields they used speed and maneuverability to escape most situations.

A sturdy vessel for its size, the HWK-290 also enjoys the inherent benefits of customization that most CEC ships have.  It’s great speed and maneuverability are coupled together with an exceptionally fast hyperdrive for a civilian vessel as well as an excellent sensor suite.  These benefits led for many to be retrofitted for long-range scouting missions as well as for cargo transport.  The addition of defensive weaponry and shields are common modifications for the HWK-290, making it capable of braving the wilds of space.

The most famous of the HWK series was the Moldy Crow, a heavily modified HWK-290 freighter used by Kyle Katarn.

Koensayr Manufacturing was contracted by the Grand Army of the Republic to produce military vessels at the start of the Clone Wars. The design teams at Koensayr worked fervently to produce craft that were useful in the battlefield and durable enough to earn the right to bear the Koensayr stamp of approval. The SX-4 was green-lit, sent into production, and began to see action during the final months of the Clone Wars. SX shuttles were used as drop ships and boarding craft in the Battle of Murkhana on the last day of the war. During the Great Jedi Purge, a handful of surviving Jedi stole an SX transport from a shipyard on Dellalt and escaped elimination by mounting a pointed prow on the front of the ship to hide the plasma punch, and fixed broad wings to disguise the vessel as a civilian transport called the Vagabond Trader. They were pursued by an Imperial cruiser and a flight of ARC-170 fighters before being rescued by Roan Shryne and the crew of the Drunk Dancer.
When the Republic transitioned into the Galactic Empire, Koensayr was unable to keep any of its government contracts. The Imperial military focused on quantity over quality and the company was unable to keep costs down. The Empire deemed the SX design unfit for public sales, but weren’t purchasing any of the craft for military use, so Koensayr sold the design to the Telgorn Corporation. Telgorn began producing SX-series shuttles using lower quality parts to meet the Empire’s fiscal demands. However, due to strict patenting on the design, Koensayr maintained exclusive sales of their L-200 engines to Telgorn for use in the manufacturing of their SX starships. To circumvent this, Telgorn later used the SX troop shuttle design as the basis for their Delta-class DX series of transports using in-house engines in the schematics.

Capabilities
The Koensayr model called the SX-4 can only be found new during the closing months of the Clone Wars, as it’s no longer in production after the war ended. Used army surplus of the vehicle can still be found well into the New Republic era, but are rare. The Telgorn variant known as the Sigma-class SX-4 does not feature the jamming suite, regenerating shields, or reinforced hull (150hp). The Sigma-class shuttle is available in the months following the Clone Wars for 300,000 (185,000 used). Both versions of the craft are equipped with a plasma punch and an airlock to allow a squad of troops to perform boarding operations.
